Individual Vs the community

The way I see it, when a society loses the distinction between Divine injunctions that are the sole domain of individuals and those which are directed towards communities that is when the trouble starts. Those in power begin to encroach on the rights of individuals and in cahoot with their historical bedfellows the clergy interpret the injunctions that concern individuals in such a way that they try to impose "one size fit all" on the masses. Consensus is only needed for the interpretations of those injunctions that affect more than one individual and their relationship towards each other and other members of the community. Once again by consensus I mean among the people and not some elite cabal. If we are able to keep the two distinct injunctions apart, most of the disruptive social issues will melt away;

Just to elaborate on what I meant, the following  are nonexhaustive lists but details the most essential aspects of one's life;

I will decide how I dress
I will decide on how I look
I will decide what I eat
I will decide on when and how I pray
I will decide on whom I marry (adults only with consent)
I will decide what to buy and what to sell (already declared legal items)

The community will agree on what is my minimum contribution in taxes (Zakat)
The community will agree on whether there should be a draft or not
The community will agree on what the divorce procedure should be.
The community will agree on who should be put in a position of authority.
The community will decide on logistics of making services and provisions accessible.
The community will agree on what can be sold or bought legally.

In essence, let us work towards getting rid of control freak "scholars" who are turning entire generations into OCD sufferers with their mile long lists of dos and don'ts mostly don'ts. The left foot first, pants above the ankles, pants below the ankles, give me twenty of this chant, thirty of that chant, don't show hair etc are not only pointless but without sanction.

  1. My dad always gets angry at me wearing pants low :'(
    Because wearing pants low is actually more modest than wearing it high because wearing it high reveals the nuts and arse.
    And my dad also forces me to cut my hair :(

    1. (Please beware of the low-pants trend that stems from homosexual prisoners communicating to other inmates that they are gay, by ensuring that the waist of your pants never falls below the line where your rear crack would appear, thank you, lol :o)

  2. awesomeness@

    When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.

    Parents are precious, sometimes we need to compromise, explain to him about the reason you wear your pants low besides looking cool :) and give him the hair cut one, its all good now days as far as hair goes.

  4. Allow me to copy paste as you did :)

    I am sorry you feel that way, lucky for me only my Rab can decide if I am a Muslim or not, nobody else. As to how can you know if I am telling the truth ? easy, verification and validation. Don't take anybody's word for it, including mine. Please take out the time to explain to me and the public how I am a fraud and do provide evidence consistent with the Quranic standard. You do know what the Quranic standard of claims is ? There is no other way. May God open your heart to welcome people into our beautiful Deen.

  5. Hadithists have a habit of attacking in numbers, and that's their most powerful, and only weapon.
