The dirty truth behind Ijma

Would you trust a team of doctors who cannot agree on your ailment but agree on what medicine you should take?

That in a nutshell is the "consensus of the scholars'', a completely made up notion, why is this important to know, because every nonsense in the name of Islam can be traced back to this falsehood and you as Muslim is bullied into bowing down to it instead of God, what are the telltale signs, so and so said so, anything that start with ''ruling'', anything that starts with ''standing committee'' and so on. But don't be surprised if this analogy is lost on the Taqleedy mind and "the doctor is always right" is thrown back at you.

There are five different criteria one each for the corresponding madhab;

Hanafi : Through public agreement of Islamic jurists
Shafi : Through agreement of the entire community and public at large,
Maliki: Through agreement amongst the residents of Medina only
Hanbali: Through agreement and practice of Muhammad's Companions only (there is still no consensus on what constitute a sahaba)
Usuli: Only the consensus of the ulama while the Prophet Pbuh was alive or Shia Imams

Don't you think they should resolve first what is Ijma before issuing fatwas 24/7 and duping ordinary Muslims? The big joke of "consensus of the scholars" starts with the comedy of innovations that scream against the letter and spirit of Islam and end up with crimes against Muslims/humanity, yes crimes, that presently is consuming the Muslim communities.

BTW, in a Taqleedy (to accept without questioning) system how difficult can it get to reach a "consensus", since all that is essentially going on is dozens of scholars photocopying each other’s work.

The infinite mercy of God and the clarity of the Quran makes it very easy to spot and call out attempts to introduce falsehood in Islam, even if it is deeply entrenched in some Muslim communities. The following laws are the product of this nonsense that has polluted our beautiful religion and have no justification and no bases in the Quran;

Laws on stoning as a punishment. (an unbelievable farce embedded in deception)
Laws that set the age of marriage for girls to 9 years (one wonders, what could be the motive)
Laws on silence of the girl as consent (just imagine)
Laws on beards and Niqab as obligatory
Laws that force women to be accompanied by mahrams (the ball and chain with a twist)
Laws on death penalty for leaving Islam (what are they thinking)
Laws on obeying unjust rulers (perhaps most are related to this gem)
Laws on instant divorce (of course this right is exclusive for the man)
Laws that propagate abrogation of Quranic verses (an impossibility but they need this one badly to complete the deception)
Laws on declaring Muslims who oppose the above farce as Kafirs

Other falsehoods, dogs are impure, Haj will wash away all your sins, non-Muslims cannot touch the Quran and on and on ......

Then comes the wordplay, suddenly ayat, Al-Hikma, zina, Siddiqoon, khimar, zeenatahunna, darab, zulufann all mysteriously change meaning .... when challenged, expect a so and so said so :)

The ease with which the above nonsense can be refuted with Quranic verses is amazing and one of the many proofs that Quran is the very word of God.

  1. Have you thought about the ways in which ijma might be helpful in ending the above listed practices that you dislike? Consider slavery, many would argue that western influence was influential in ending slavery in the Islamic world but maybe it was ijma of the ummah based on the Sunnah of the prophet and the Koran. Just a thought.

  2. Maghann; Thanks for reading the post, you make a valid point but the solution lies with the Ummah, the only sanctioned authority as laid-out in the Quran, not a closed circle of men answerable to no one. I have proposed a system of government that will take care of the issue.
