The real warning in verse 3:7 is that there are those who twist the allegorical meaning to fool people, the verse goes on to use the often used Quranic term "those whose hearts have perversity" قُلُوبِهِمْ زَيْغٌ. But what is the perversity in trying to determine the meaning of Huruf-e-Muqatta'at? Especially when they can be logically demonstrated to be part of the design that proves the perfect preservation of the Quran and its inimitable nature?
Besides Quran 3:7 even keeps the door open to the possibility for those firm in knowledge, the use of the "Wah" is worth meditating on here. But if one were to ignore this meaning and go by the traditionalist interpretations which tries to shut the door to understanding parts of the Quran then we will be going against the very premise of a message which above all Quran is. Mind you this is different than not being able to understand the underlying truth of the allegorical reference or not understanding something momentarily due to lack of a relevant domain knowledge. Nevertheless, it is important to believe in it just the same until such time that the understanding comes with the help of new knowledge gained. Which is a sound logical position once care has been taken to determine that Quran as a whole is the very word of God.
In fact Huruf-e-Muqatta'at (abbreviated letters or letter symbols) boomerangs on the traditionalist's interpretation that their meaning is indeterminable by mere mortals even though it is part of the message intended for mere mortals. It boomerangs on them because they are taking the "manufactured" allegorical meaning, I say manufactured because it is not the Quran that is using ALIF LAM MIM to convey the notion of absence of meaning, not a single verse of the Quran even hints at it. Before we can apply Quran 3:7 one has to be clear that before using something allegorically it must have a meaning to begin with, which in turn can be used to project it to another reality so to speak.
If one were to take the default or face value of Huruf-e-Muqatta'at then these above all are characters of the Arabic alphabet, each representing a phoneme of the spoken language. They can neither be self-referenced into allegorical nor not having any meaning, in fact, they are the essence of representing meanings in written form. What they do perfectly well is to be part of a system and act as placeholders by offering themselves to be counted and give words their meaning when aggregated to form one, which is exactly what characters of an alphabet are supposed to do.

Thank you for the link, I am acquainted with the work of RK,I don't agree with everything he put forward or what he stands for to many. In my opinion, Rashad Khalifa after a promising start lost his way but maths is maths, you don't need anybody to verify an observed phenomenon, straightforward application of the rules will do. Some elements of his works don't add up others do, again, the discovery is no longer dependent on his personal interpretation. Neither should his fudging of some portion of the nineteen based structure render the entire findings invalid. In any case the field has move on well beyond Rashad Khalifa.

ReplyDeleteDetailed explanation of each Huruf-e-Muqatat using Hebrew-Arabic Phonetic similarities in the past. Please read and decide for yourself...
Thanks for visiting the blog and thank you for the link. Interesting but not anywhere near conclusive :) Besides for me personally it does not work because if it were so then that would introduce a contradiction in the Quran.
DeleteQuran was revealed in the Arabic language as clearly detailed in the Quran itself. The implication here is that the message should be interpreted by considering the words within the context of the Arabic language only. By that I mean if a Quranic word sounds like something in another language with a different meaning or even a similar meaning then that is a mere coincidence. This does not mean Quran cannot be understood in another language. If it were so then the message would go against its Universality claim and that would be a contradiction.
That brings us to reminding ourselves of the most important parameter, there are no contradictions in the Quran, including all the self-referenced rules we can throw at it. Why is this significant? Because it prevents us from settling for conclusions that are wrong. In practice if any one of our conclusion is contradicting some other conclusion of ours than either the first conclusion is wrong or the second conclusion is wrong or both are wrong. A fantastic aid to prevent reaching wrong conclusions.
I know it's not conclusive because I'm still building on it:) I don't understand what "contradiction" you think I'm implying.
DeleteI wanted to define each Letter in the context of the Sura it prefixes. I think that is the most rational approach to defining the 'Mysterious' Letters. You are right, it is Arabic. But how is that relevant? 90% of Muslims today think they're holy mysterious letters, when they are just marker summaries. It wasn't hard to figure out. Hebrew and Arabic are Semitic languages, and nearly every word in the Quran has an identical Hebrew equivalent.
It should not surprise you that extended Letters meant words by themselves. Think about it like this. Why is there not a single hadith of a companion asking the prophet what the letters meant? Because they already knew it on the spot. Farahi demonstrated this with the letter 'Thet'. It means snake in Hebrew. Each sura that has the letter 'Taw' has the Moses-Snake story. Coincidence? I think not. I try to prove this with all the letters in all the suras. I was able to decipher 75%, the rest is due to the lack of repeated-letters(like Nun). Jazakullah for reading though!
Also, I'd like to give you some practical examples. They don't require knowledge outside of Arabic but it will be useful to see how they're related.
DeleteArabic Ba = Hebrew Beth = Arabic Bayt means house.
Arabic Ra = Hebrew Resh = Arabic Rais means Head.
Arabic Lam= Hebrew Lamed = Arabic Ilm means knowledge.
You probably cached that the Arabic alphabet, as it was more developed, dropped the final consonants of the letters. In doing so however, letters lost their singular meaning. The early Arabs used the 'Abjad' alphabet, not the one we use today. They pronounced letters singularly, like the Hebrews and knew what the letters meant on their own.

ReplyDeleteVery soon my article will arrive that will
reveal the meanings of alif lam mim.
Lol, you know Mahdi is a fictional character right. The prophet never said any thing about him and he's not in Quran.
DeleteFor the first time in the history of the world - I reveal to you the meaning of Alif Lam Mim via this comment.
DeleteAlif Lam Mim means "Mahamati Prannath".
The Quran begins with the name of "Mahamati Prannath". The Quran begins with the title of a Hindu saint who happens to be Imam Mahdi. (I shall prove it in my own blog later. So, have patience.)
Anyone knows who Mahamati Prannath is? ... Go to Gujrat of India and do some research on Mahamati Prannath and his biography instead of debating over the web.
Mahamati Prannath was religious leader who founded the religion named "Nijanand Sampradaya" in the 17th century Mughal ruled India.
Thank you for dropping by to this very humble blog.
DeleteAs Ilyas pointed out above, there is no such thing as Imam Mahdi, hence any proof tied to this made up figure will obviously be way off the mark :)
Read this:

and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
The Meaning of Alif Lam Mim:
DeleteUp until the arrival of wisdom of Mahamati Prannath, the world only knew of one Muhmammed, the great Muhammed, the Rasul of Allah himself.
Now, here is the thing - “Not only is there one great Muhammed of Allah,, there are two other great Muhammed(s) of Allah who were completely hidden by Allah’s will until the final hour!”
Unbelievable, isn’t it? But believe it!
In total, there are 3 face(s) of Muhammed of Allah. They are:
1. Rasul Muhammed
2. Isa Ruh Allah
3. Imam Muhammed Mahdi
The first face of Muhammed is Rasul who revealed the Quran. The second face of Muhammed is Isa Ruh Allah who brought the wisdom of Lahut of Allah. And the third face of Muhammed is Imam Muhammed Mahdi who brought down the revelations of the wisdom of Haqqiqat (knowledge that acquaints you with the hidden meanings of the Quran) and Marifaat (knowledge that acquaints you with the identity of Allah), of Islam.
Alif Lam Mim consists of three different letters. Each letter i.e. Alif, Lam and Mim represent three distinct Muhammad(s) of Allah. Alif Lam Mim is therefore the name of 3 Muhammad(s) of Allah. They are:
1. (The 1st letter) Alif is the name of Rasul Muhammed - the first Muhammed.
2. (The 2nd letter) Lam is the name of Isa Ruh Allah, Devchandra Mehta - the second Muhammed.
3. (The 3rd letter) Finally, Mim is the name of Imam Muhammed Mahdi, Meher Raj Thakur - the final Muhammed himself!
Keep in mind that each Muhammed of Allah had arrived in this world, with their specific task in hand. Firstly, Allah sent the Quran to Alif. So, the primary task of Alif was to bring the Quran, which he did. Secondly, Allah gave the wisdom of his identity to Lam. So, the primary task of Lam was to bring and spread the wisdom of Allah’s identity, which he did. And lastly, Allah gave his full authority to Mim so that Mim could do judgment on his behalf. Therefore, Mim did the judgment of the Judgment Day at the Judgment Day.
So, when Rasul Muhammed’s spirit and Isa Ruh Allah’s spirit merged with Meher Raj Thakur’s spirit, the spiritual forces combined to what became to be known as Alif Lam Mim.
Therefore, Alif + Lam + Mim = Mahamati Prannath
