Islam came to end the reign of Kings and their historic bedfellows the clergy.
Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest.
~~ Denis Diderot
Obviously, I won't go as far as what Diderot in his frustration is advocating because that is not what Islam teaches but the sentiment is on the button. That is why every Muslim and non-Muslim dictator, King, and priest worth their salt is busy 24/7 to discredit Islam as detailed in the Quran because Islam has no room for any of them. The sad part is that most buys into their lies and get convinced that these very lies are Islam.
The real tragedy is that those Muslims who have outsourced their Faith to the illegal clergy and their historic bedfellows the dictators and royalty end up defending these lies while mistakenly believing they are defending Islam. At the same time, the Islam-Haters gleefully keep bring them up under the disguise of "Islamic Sources".
Hence, the lies that have come to define Islam, as practiced by most Muslims, is reduced to nine-year-old brides, the punishment of stoning to death, death to apostates, the suffocating dress code for women and, of course, the all-time favorite of the incompetent rulers, Predestination because that way they can always blame God for their blunders.
The other tragedy is that anybody with at least two functioning brain cells can pick up the obsequious Quran and refute these lies in minutes. It is just one lookup book with clear instruction on how to look it up, how difficult can it be?
Then, We sent after them, Our Messengers, and We sent 'Iesa (Jesus) son of Maryam (Mary), and gave him the Injeel (Gospel). And We ordained in the hearts of those who followed him, compassion and mercy. But the Monasticism which they invented for themselves, We did not prescribe for them, but (they sought it) only to please God therewith, but that they did not observe it with the right observance. So We gave those among them who believed, their (due) reward, but many of them are Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to God). Quran 57:27
Monasticism doesn't necessarily cover all clergy but it is one of the main sources of it.
Furthermore, the following verse makes it clear that it as the clergy that dropped the ball previously when it comes to the scriptures:
O you who believe! Indeed, many of the rabbis and the monks surely eat (the) wealth (of) the people in falsehood, and hinder from (the) way (of) Allah. And those who hoard the gold and the silver, and (do) not spend it in (the) way (of) Allah, [so] give them tidings of a punishment painful. Quran 9:34
Now please go and do your own research.
